Student stories

From no computer to launching a real business

Every ExploreMyPC Organization student carries a unique story. Here are a few ways students have used technology, mentorship, and support to change what felt possible.

Student working on a laptop

“Before this program, I was writing essays on my phone. Now I have my own laptop, I've built a portfolio website, and I'm freelancing as a web designer for local businesses.”

Jasmine, 17 — High school junior & first-generation college hopeful

Student presenting a project

“My mentor helped me turn my idea for a tutoring app into an actual prototype. I learned how to pitch, test, and improve it. Now I'm in college applying to computer science programs with a project I'm proud of.”

Miguel, 19 — Community college student & aspiring founder

Group of students in a tech workshop

“Our group used what we learned to create a website that connects neighbors with free resources in our city. It started as a class project and turned into something the community actually uses.”

Questions

Frequently asked by students & parents

If you don't see your question here, reach out and our team will be glad to help you understand how the program works.

Who is eligible to apply?

Our programs are designed for high school students, college students, and community-based learners who have limited access to technology or opportunities in tech and entrepreneurship. We prioritize first-generation, low-income, and underrepresented students—but we review every application holistically.

Do I need prior experience with coding or technology?

No. You do not need to know how to code or have advanced computer skills to apply. We welcome complete beginners as well as students who are already experimenting with tech and want guidance and structure.

Is there a cost to participate?

Our goal is to remove financial barriers. Many of our programs and resources are offered at no cost to students, thanks to our partners and donors. If a specific track has any fees, we clearly explain them and provide scholarships whenever possible.

What is the time commitment?

Time commitments vary by program. Some tracks are weekly workshops over several weeks, while others are intensive bootcamps or ongoing mentoring relationships. In your acceptance materials, we outline exactly what to expect so you can balance school, work, and family responsibilities.

Can I apply if I don't live near your main location?

Yes. We offer both in-person and virtual opportunities. Many of our digital literacy trainings, mentorship sessions, and project-based programs can be completed remotely with a reliable device and internet connection. (Coming Soon)
